At BMF Consultancy, we believe that internationalisation only makes sense when it is fully aligned with a company’s overall strategy and grounded in the specific realities of the target markets. With this conviction, we have joined forces with PORTOCS Consulting, a Chilean consultancy specialised in international business development and trade fair representation, to support companies and organisations in their global expansion processes—particularly along the Spain–Chile corridor and vice versa.

The core objective of this alliance is to turn internationalisation plans into tangible decisions, executable agendas and real agreements, combining strategic vision with an established on-the-ground presence on both sides of the Atlantic.

¿Who is PORTOCS Consulting and what does it bring to the alliance?

PORTOCS is a Chilean consultancy with solid experience in:

  • Representation of international trade fairs in Chile and Latin America

  • Development of projects across sectors such as industry, construction, mining, services and exhibitions

  • Organisation of buyer programmes and B2B agendas for major events

  • In-depth knowledge of business and institutional stakeholders in Chile and the Andean region

Within this alliance, PORTOCS contributes strong local reach, an extensive network of contacts and operational capability on the ground for companies looking to establish or expand their presence in Chile and neighbouring markets.

¿What does BMF Consultancy contribute?

BMF Consultancy – Innovative Future Solutions brings to the partnership:

  • Design of internationalisation strategies aligned with the company’s global positioning

  • Extensive experience in the trade fair and MICE ecosystem, particularly in Spain and Europe

  • Direct connections with associations, clusters, trade fairs, distributors and partners across Spain and the European Union

  • Hands-on support in transformation processes, market positioning and international market entry

Our mission is to provide companies with a solid strategic framework, help define priorities and offer support at every stage of the internationalisation journey.

The Spain–Chile trade context

In 2024, bilateral trade in goods between Spain and Chile reached approximately €3.504 billion, with Spanish exports to Chile amounting to €1.774 billion and imports from Chile to €1.731 billion. This represents a highly balanced relationship, with a slight surplus for Spain and a coverage rate of 102.5%, according to ICEX (ESTACOM) data.

Spain stands out as one of the EU’s leading economies, with strengths in industry (capital goods, automotive, chemicals and pharmaceuticals), agribusiness and advanced services. It also serves as a key gateway to the European Union, supported by a highly developed trade fair and associative ecosystem.

Chile, meanwhile, is one of the most open economies in Latin America, with a network of more than 30 trade and economic agreements covering nearly 88% of global GDP. Its export tradition is rooted in mining, agribusiness and seafood, increasingly complemented by higher value-added services and solutions.

The key sectors of bilateral trade are:

  • From Spain to Chile: capital goods, automotive, machinery for energy and construction, chemical and pharmaceutical products, and value-added food products.

  • From Chile to Spain: copper and derivatives, seafood (mussels, jumbo squid, squid, hake and salmon), fresh fruit, nuts (Hass avocados, walnuts), and potassium nitrate for fertilisers.

In this context, the complementarity between both economies is clear. The BMF–PORTOCS alliance offers two key advantages:

  1. Order and professionalisation of internationalisation, facilitating the transition from occasional export/import operations to strategies of stable presence in the other market.

  2. An integrated team in Spain and Chile capable of translating macroeconomic figures and opportunities into concrete projects: roadmaps, B2B agendas, trade fairs and executable, measurable agreements.

A two-way alliance: Spain–Chile and Chile–Spain

The collaboration between BMF and PORTOCS is designed as a two-way gateway for companies in both countries.

For Spanish companies

We support companies that wish to:

  • Explore and define their entry strategy into Chile and other Latin American markets.

  • Identify real opportunities, partners, clients and local prescribers.

  • Integrate trade fairs, trade missions and digital actions into a coherent plan.

  • Rely on a local team in Chile to move forward with greater security and focus.

For Chilean companies

We support companies and institutions that seek to:

  • Use Spain as a gateway to the European Union.

  • Adapt their value proposition to the European context (positioning, requirements, channels).

  • Design an approach strategy to clients, distributors and partners in Spain.

  • Leverage the Spanish trade fair, sectoral and associative ecosystem as a growth lever.

Cross-cutting methodology and sectoral focus

Although the initial area of joint work will be the industrial sector and related fields (mining, construction and auxiliary services), the alliance has been conceived to be cross-sectoral, with particular attention to:

  • Industrial and equipment companies.

  • Advanced services and technological solutions.

  • Public bodies, associations and chambers that promote the internationalisation of their members.

What brings the work together is not so much the sector, but the methodology applied:

  1. Strategic diagnosis

  2. Analyse the company’s starting situation, its objectives and timelines.

  3. Define priority markets and the role of internationalisation in its global strategy.

  4. Internationalisation roadmap

  5. Combine tools such as trade fairs, missions, B2B agendas, alliances and digital channels.

  6. Establish the sequence of actions, required resources and decision criteria.

  7. Coordinated execution in both countries

  8. Integrated teams from BMF in Spain and PORTOCS in Chile.

  9. Opportunity tracking, on-the-fly adjustments, support in negotiation and market entry.

The objective is less improvisation and more process; fewer isolated actions and more strategy with execution.

¿Who is this alliance for?

The BMF–PORTOCS alliance is particularly aimed at:

  • Spanish companies seeking a structured leap towards Chile and Latin America.

  • Chilean companies that consider Spain as the next natural step in their growth.

  • Associations and sectoral entities pursuing continuous internationalisation programmes with measurable results for their members.

Next steps

In the coming months, BMF and PORTOCS will jointly present this alliance to companies, associations and institutions in Spain and Chile, with the aim of driving internationalisation projects with a long-term vision and immediate impact on the business.
